Internet2

Internet2 is a not-for-profit consortium established in 1996 by prominent U.S. higher education institutions. It operates the largest and fastest research and education network in the country, designed to support the bandwidth needs of the research and education sectors, as well as industry and government partners.

The organization focuses on developing and managing a high-performance network infrastructure that facilitates innovative applications and services. Internet2 provides a hybrid optical and packet network backbone with speeds up to 100 Gbit/s, connecting over 210 educational institutions, 70 corporations, and numerous government agencies. Its services include high-performance network solutions, federated identity management, cloud services tailored for the research community, and community support through workshops and conferences.

Internet2 fosters collaboration among its members, which include over 320 higher education institutions and connections to more than 100 countries, enabling them to address technology challenges and advance their educational and research missions.
